Knee-Driven

Called a "Wubba-Wubba" shimmy by Damiena on Bhuz.

Starting from standing with slightly bent knees, this shimmy is created by alternately straightening (not locking!) each knee. Creates a very loose, relaxed shimmy.

Egyptian

Also called a "straight-leg" shimmy.

It is simliar to the knee-driven shimmy, but the thigh muscles are used to push the knee back.

Glute-Driven

This shimmy is taught by Suhaila Salimpour.

This shimmy is created by alternately contracting and releasing each buttock.

Oblique-Driven

This shimmy is created by alternately pulling each hip up using the obliques.

3/4 Shimmy

This is called a 3/4 shimmy because you move for three beats then pause. It has many variations including directing hip movement to the side , vertically or front to back, as well as including twisting motions.
