Maya

Page history last edited by dani 3 yrs ago

A hip movement that is commonly referred to as a downward vertical eight. Essentially the hips are tracing an infinity symbol: from the center, the right (or left) hip moves up by contracting the oblique, hip pushes out and downward and in, then the movement transfers to the other side, and so on. The movement can be done with flat feet or with the heel lifting slightly as the hip comes up. The term "Maya" was probably in honor of a dancer, but as with many things in bellydance, that may or may not be true.
